This 2001 Van’s RV-6, VH-MSY, is a well-equipped Australian example with 1,295 hours total time, a 180 hp Lycoming O-360-A1A and a strong avionics package. Built by Peter L. Bennett, it has been configured as a capable touring and recreational aircraft, with the combination of RV performance, useful load and long-range fuel giving it considerably more flexibility than a basic local-flying setup.
The aircraft has an 840 kg MTOW and 340 kg useful load, with 242 kg remaining with the main tanks full. Fuel capacity is 200 litres, making the aircraft particularly well suited to longer cross-country flying. Practical touches include the slider canopy with rear tip-up section for easier baggage access, larger main tyres, pressure-recovery wheel spats and a pneumatic tailwheel. An RV-7 engine mount modification is also fitted.
Up front is the Lycoming O-360-A1A producing 180 hp, matched to a Catto fixed-pitch three-blade propeller. The panel is equally well considered, with Dynon SkyView, Dynon engine monitoring, GPS navigation, two-axis autopilot and conventional backup instrumentation. Together, the airframe, fuel capacity and equipment package make VH-MSY a very usable RV-6 for an owner looking for an aircraft capable of both enjoyable local flying and serious cross-country work.
The aircraft is located at Tyabb, Victoria, and is offered at AUD $160,000.
