Groppo Trail Project – Approximately 90% Complete
$AUD65,000
PROJECT OVERVIEW
This Groppo Trail project presents an excellent opportunity to acquire a substantially completed aircraft and finish it to your own specifications.
Built under SAAA supervision, the aircraft is approximately 90% complete and includes a completed fuselage, wings, tailplane and interior, all constructed to a high standard.
A Rotax 912 engine is included. The aircraft is currently in project form and requires final assembly and installation work before completion.
The seller advises that the remaining work includes installation of a propeller, instruments, engine and cowling, along with exterior paint, final wing installation and rigging. Frames to support the folded wings are also included.
The aircraft can be trailered with the tailplane removed (eight bolts) and represents an opportunity to complete a Groppo Trail for approximately the cost of a new kit alone.

ABOUT THE GROPPO TRAIL
The Groppo Trail is an Italian-designed light aircraft featuring stressed-skin aluminium construction combined with a welded chrome-moly steel cockpit safety cage.
One of the aircraft’s standout features is its folding-wing system, allowing a single person to fold or unfold the wings in just minutes without draining fuel. The aircraft can also be trailered with the tailplane removed, making storage and transport significantly easier than many comparable designs.
The design is available in both Experimental Amateur-Built (E/A-B) and Experimental Light Sport Aircraft (ELSA) categories.
WHY THIS PROJECT MAKES SENSE
A standard Groppo Trail firewall-back kit starts at approximately $40,000 AUD. Once a firewall-forward package, engine, propeller, avionics, upholstery and paint are added, the total investment required to complete a new aircraft can exceed $90,000 AUD.
Typical completion costs include:
| Item |
Approximate Cost (AUD) |
| Base Airframe Kit |
$40,000 |
| Firewall-Forward Package |
$7,000+ |
| Rotax 912 Engine |
$40,000+ |
| Propeller |
$5,000+ |
| Avionics, Upholstery & Paint |
$5,000+ |
This project provides a significant head start, with the majority of the construction already completed and a Rotax 912 engine included, allowing the next owner to complete and customise the aircraft to their own requirements while potentially saving substantial time and money compared to starting from a new kit.
