1942 Douglas DC-3C Airliner

$NZD599,500 + GST (if sold in NZ)

Offered for sale is this beautifully presented 1942 Douglas DC-3C, one of the world's most iconic classic airliners. Registered ZK-JGB, this aircraft combines remarkable wartime history with proven operational capability, making it an outstanding opportunity for collectors, commercial operators or aviation enthusiasts seeking a genuine flying legend.

Originally delivered to the U.S. Navy in 1942 as an R4D-1 (equivalent to the USAAF C-47 Skytrain), the aircraft later entered Australian civil service before operating in New Zealand. It has also appeared in the feature film "The Lord of the Rings" and recently participated in the Jean Batten commemorative flight.

Powered by twin Pratt & Whitney R-1830-94 Twin Wasp radial engines, the aircraft has accumulated approximately 20,900 hours total airframe time. It has been maintained to a high standard with all Airworthiness Directives complied with, a new floor panel and roof beam structure, rudder overhaul completed in 2021, and both engine hoses replaced seven years ago.

Interior

The passenger cabin is configured with 19 seats. Seating consists of rows of two-place double and single seats finished in dark blue leather. Cabin appointments include burgundy floor coverings, sheepskin throw rugs, tray tables, and a private lavatory, providing a comfortable and authentic classic airliner experience.

Exterior

Finished in a classic scheme featuring a white upper fuselage with a blue stripe through the window line, complemented by a silver lower fuselage and wings, the aircraft presents beautifully while retaining the timeless appearance that has made the DC-3 one of aviation's most recognised aircraft.
